About

“One of the most exciting and original talents in the business”
—LA Times

Alice Waddington is a Spanish writer-director whose work combines striking visual genre worlds with sci-fi, dramedic or horror storytelling, exploring identity and power.

Born in 1990 in a blue-collar shipyard neighborhood of Bilbao, Alice began her career in advertising and fashion photography, including work for Harper’s Bazaar Spain, before moving into narrative filmmaking. Her Academy Award-qualified short "Disco Inferno" screened at more than 80 festivals worldwide, including Palm Springs, Fantasia, Sitges, and Fantastic Fest, where she won Best Director.

Her debut feature, the Netflix Original "Paradise Hills", premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and was released by Universal in 2019. Produced by Nostromo Pictures and co-written with Nacho Vigalondo and Brian DeLeeuw, the science-fiction thriller stars Emma Roberts, Awkwafina, Eiza González, Danielle Macdonald, Milla Jovovich, and Jeremy Irvine. It screened at more than 20 international genre festivals, including Fantasia and Sitges.

In 2019-2021, Alice sold a project to Disney and developed "Scarlet" for Netflix, then Orion - MGM at Amazon. She co-wrote and executive produced the project with Kristen SaBerre, with Aggregate Entertainment attached. In 2023, she developed "Department H" with Netflix, an adaptation of the Dark Horse comic written by Pacific Rim scribe T.S. Nowlin.

In 2022, Alice made her television writing and directing debut with "La Pesadilla", an episode of Amazon Spain’s reboot of Chicho Ibáñez Serrador’s landmark horror anthology "Historias para no dormir". Co-written with Rocío Martínez, the episode premiered at the Sitges Film Festival. Other directors featured in the series include Nacho Vigalondo and Rodrigo Cortés.

In 2025, she was a writer and director in the horror anthology "Tales from the Woods", which was presented on the festival circuit (Sitges, Fantastic Fest) and features contributions from filmmakers including Benson and Moorhead.

As of 2026, and as a longtime Muay Thai practitioner, Alice is currently developing "Anonymous Jane", an action feature with producers Addictive Pictures, Neotext, and Range, alongside action director Philip Silvera.
